2009 Members’ Annual Report
The report provides important information on CONNECT, our investments, short-term and long-term super performance and the financial summary for the 2008/09 financial year.
CONNECT, like the rest of the super industry, has seen four incredibly strong years of investment market performance followed by the two worst years on record. It’s been quite a ride of highs and lows. It’s disappointing to see another year of negative returns, but CONNECT has again done better than the average. In 2007/08 CONNECT outperformed the average balanced fund and we’ve done it again in 2008/09.
CONNECT’s consistent and improving performance over the past two years compares well with some other leading funds that have seen their comparative performance fall in recent tough investment conditions.
According to our investment advisory firm, JANA Investment Advisers, although tough investment conditions persisted through 2008/09, there are now early signs of recovery.
The table below shows the total net earnings (after the deduction of relevant fees, costs and taxes) for CONNECT for the year to 30 June 2009 and as an average over the past five years.
