Government co-contributions

Government co-contributions – let the Government help top up your super!

You may be eligible to receive an extra super contribution from the government if you make additional after-tax voluntary contributions to CONNECT and you earn less than $60,342 p.a.

The maximum government co-contribution is $1,500 p.a. It applies where you earn less than $30,342 pa, and you personally contribute at least $1,000 p.a. into your super.

Check if you are eligible

To receive the government co-contribution, you must:
  • make voluntary contributions to CONNECT that are not salary sacrifice contributions. Superannuation Guarantee contributions through your employer are not eligible
  • earn less than $60,342 pa, with at least 10% of your income from being an employee (as defined for Superannuation Guarantee purposes)
  • be less than 71 years old at the end of the financial year the contribution was made
  • lodge an income tax return for the year you have made the voluntary contributions; and are not a temporary Australian resident.

Receive up to $1.50 for every $1 you put in

The amount of a government co-contribution you receive for a financial year depends on your income and the voluntary contributions you’ve made to CONNECT.

If you earn $30,342 p.a. or less, for every $1 you contribute up to $1,000 p.a., the government will match it with $1.50.

The amount of co-contribution reduces if your income is higher, and cuts out completely at $60,342 pa. To check how much you could receive use the ATO'S super co-contributor calculator.

If you are eligible for the government co-contribution, it will be paid directly into your CONNECT account following assessment of your annual tax return.
